The list of recipients of the 10th Capek Prize was recently announced, with Jiankun WANG, Assistant Professor of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), being honored with the Capek Outstanding Young Scholar Award for his outstanding contributions to the development of the robotics industry.

Established in 2014 and named after Karel Capek, the Czech science fiction writer who coined the term “robot”, the Capek Prize aims to become the “Nobel Prize” of the robotics industry.

The prize aims to set a benchmark for leading companies with strategic vision in the robotics industry, enhance corporate brand image, promote innovative enterprises as industry models, improve overall innovation capabilities, and recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to the industry’s development.

Over the past decade, the Capek Prize has become one of the most prestigious awards in China’s robotics community. The annual industry selection and award ceremony play an important role in promoting the healthy and sustainable development of the nation’s robotics industry and documenting its impact on manufacturing and human lifestyles.

Jiankun WANG is a high-level overseas talent in Shenzhen, with his research focusing on robot motion and path planning, intelligent robotic systems, human-robot interaction, and embodied intelligence.

He chairs the Program Committee of the 2023 and 2024 International Conference on Biomimetic Intelligence and Robotics and serves as a senior committee member for international conferences such as IEEE ICRA and IEEE ROBIO.

Professor WANG is an IEEE Senior Member, an IET Member, an Associate Editor for several top international journals, and a reviewer for over ten international journals.

He has published more than 60 academic papers in leading journals and conferences in robotics and artificial intelligence, and his works have been recognized by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Highly Cited Papers for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023.
