SUSTech’s swimming team achieves great success in 2023 Guangdong Province Student Swimming Championship

The 2023 Guangdong Province Student Swimming Championship, hosted by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, was recently held at the South China Normal University.

A total of 1,294 students from 72 universities and colleges across the province participated in this competition.

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) swimming team took part in the championship, and was guided by Weicheng WEI and Ziqi YE, faculty members of the Sports Center.

The team consisted of doctoral student Yilian LIU and undergraduate students Wei LI, Minghan WANG, Pengfei WEN, Jiashu LI, Yue NONG, Junyao WEN and Sidi WANG. They participated in two team relays and 16 individual events, and achieved historical success in the competition.

Yue NONG swam to victory in the women’s 50 meters freestyle and finished fourth in the 100 meters freestyle in the women’s group A; Sidi WANG triumphed by winning the women’s 50 meters backstroke competition and placed second in the 200 meters freestyle; Wei LI finished eighth in the men’s 50 meters freestyle event; Pengfei WEN, Minghan WANG, Junyao WEN, and Wei LI took fourth place in the men’s 4×50 meters freestyle relay in group A; Sidi WANG, Jiashu LI, Yilian LIU, and Yue NONG claimed first place in the women’s 4×50 meters freestyle relay in group A; and SUSTech finished eighth in the overall points score of group A.
