On May 15, 2024, Mr. Behzad Babakhani, Consul General of the Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou, led a delegation to visit the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Qikun Xue, President of SUSTech, and other representatives held discussions with the guests. 

President Xue warmly welcomed Consul General Babakhani's visit and provided an overview of the current development of SUSTech. He expressed the university's desire to strengthen cooperation with Canadian universities, businesses, and institutions. President Xue emphasized the importance of enhancing exchanges in talent cultivation, scientific research, innovation, and cultural exchange between China and Canada.

Vice President Li Jin highlighted the collaboration between SUSTech and Canadian universities. He expressed SUSTech's desire to enhance connections with Canadian universities in student exchange, faculty visits, joint research and willingness to co-host academic seminars.

Consul General Babakhani commended SUSTech's remarkable achievements and shared information about various activities between Canada and China supported by the Canadian Consulate General in Guangzhou. He emphasized the longstanding relations between the two countries and expressed his commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation between universities in academic research and opening a new chapter in Sino-Canadian cooperation.

Dean Prof. Shuhong Yu from the College of Science, Associate Dean Prof. Bi Zhang from the College of Engineering, and Prof. Zhenghe Xu participated in the discussions.
