Introduction:

Dr. Kai Xiao is an associate Professor from Department of Biomedical Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, China. Kai Xiao received his bachelor degree from Jilin University (Changchun, China) in 2012, and PhD degree from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS, China) in 2017. After that, he moved to Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG, Germany) working as an Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellow. From 2021, he works as an associate Professor in Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech, China), and leads a research group. He has authored over 60 academic papers published on peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters, with citations over 4000. His research interest lies in biomimetic materials, neuromorphic devices, and neuromodulation.

The language of intelligent life is "ions", and the language of artificial intelligence is "electrons". The generation and processing of signals in intelligent life is controlled through nanoscale ion channels for ion transport, generating action units on micrometer sized neurons, and achieving signal transmission and information storage in macroscopic neural networks. In order to build a high-throughput and low-power brain like computing system, break through the barriers of information exchange between intelligent life and artificial intelligence, the "Neuro-inspired materials and devices Lab" conducts interdisciplinary research in chemistry, materials, information, biology, and other fields. By imitating the low energy and high-throughput information processing and processing mode of intelligent biology, a bioinspired multi-scale controllable ion transport system has been constructed, Revealed the interaction law between ion transport material structure/interface, developed a new machine learning algorithm based on deep neural network (DNN) and pulse neural network (SNN), implemented brain like computing using "ions" as language and used for biological signal regulation.
