SUSTech School of Design was invited to participate in the Shenzhen Design Week World Designers's Conference (WDC) and organized a lecture on "The Future of Design and Innovation"

On the afternoon of April 27, 2023, co-hosted by Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and International Council of Design, organized by Shenzhen Innovation and Creative Design Development Office and Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen, and executed by Shenzhen Media Group, 2023 Shenzhen Design Week's major event — World Designers' Conference (WDC) was held in the multi-function hall of Binhai Art Center. SUSTech School of Design (hereinafter referred to as "the School") was invited to participate in this conference. Founding Dean of the School, Chair Professor Tom KVAN and Chair Professor HE Renke hosted two roundtable forums, "Design and Enterprise Innovation in the Age of Digital Intelligence" and "Design Education in the Age of AI", respectively, to discuss the impacts of artificial intelligence on design and industry with leading designers and scholars from the industry and academia around the world. Together with leading designers and scholars from the global industry and academia, they discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on design and industry, and the road of education in the age of artificial intelligence.

Design and Enterprise Innovation in the Age of Digital Intelligence

In the roundtable forum, Prof. KVAN, Mr. WU Guoping, Chief Expert of Huawei Consumer BG Industrial Design Department, Ms. CHEN Yan, General Manager of Tencent User Research and Experience Design Department, Ms. HE Lijuan, Design Director of Shenzhen Mindray Medical Industrial Design Center, Mr. FAN Jihan, Associate Director of Exterior of BYD Global Vehicle Design Center, and Mr. LI Xunhong, General Manager of TCL Design and Innovation Center, had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the topic of "Design Enables Industrial Innovation and Development". The guests of the forum put forward their thoughts and suggestions on how enterprises can use design to upgrade and transform themselves in the era of digital wisdom and to enhance their international influence from the perspectives of enterprises and universities respectively.

Design Education in the Age of AI

Moderated by Prof. KVAN, the roundtable discussion on "Design Education in the Age of AI" invited Mr. HAN Xu, Vice President of China Academy of Art, Mr. WANG Min, former Dean of the School of Design of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and ICoD Secretary General Younès Roughella to discuss and look forward to the challenges and opportunities for design education in the wave of AI, as well as how to recognize, respond to, and create the changes that are occurring.

The Future of Design and Innovation

In the afternoon, Mr. LUO Jianxi, Associate Professor of Design and Artificial Intelligence, Division of Engineering Product Development, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), was a guest speaker at the DS Lecture Series, sharing with SUSTech students and faculty members his research and progress in the field of data-driven innovation and how designers can collaborate with AI to develop entrepreneurial spirit and leadership to realize a human-centered future.

Vice Dean HAN Xu of China Academy of Art and his delegation visited the School

On April 28, Vice Dean Han Xu of China Academy of Art visited the School of Design. Dean Tom KVAN, Vice Dean LI Xu and faculty members received them. KVAN introduced the school's philosophy and practice in the past two years. HAN introduced the schooling plan and campus construction of School of Design & Innovation of CAA. Both sides had a warm discussion on the change of design education in the new era, the positioning of design discipline and the future cooperation between the two schools.
